On Sunday 22nd September 2019, a group of Oakwood staff are taking part in the Sheffield 10K to raise money for the Teenage Cancer trust. This is in support of one of our recent school leavers. We have already raised over £1000 in school and pupils will be sponsoring the staff. If you are able to support them, the link to their just giving page is https://www.justgiving.com/teams/Oakwood10k. Alternatively, you donate via the link further down …..
‘Our daughter Lulu, who was just 15, was diagnosed back in May with a very rare form of bone cancer called Ewing’s sarcoma
Her school, Oakwood High School in Rotherham – although she completed Y11 in July – have been amazing and as many as 20 staff are running the Sheffield 10km in bald caps and pink tutus! At her request.
The support that our family has received through the TCT has been palpable. The word amazing is used far too freely, but they truly are. When in hospital Lulu stays in the TCT unit at Weston Park, rather than a ward, and she is treated like a young person rather than a patient with her own room and en suite facility. It is set up more like a university hall of residence and given these young people are facing the biggest challenge of their lives this makes a huge positive difference. There are simply no words to describe just how wonderful the staff are either – from the nursing staff who are funded through the TCT to the support staff who assist with the social and emotional challenges inevitable with a cancer diagnosis and the subsequent treatments’
