We’ve all been there, your child is slumped on the sofa watching T.V. or upstairs playing on games and when you ask them about homework, you hear that familiar reply, “I don’t have any homework.” Well, as long as you are logged on to 'Go4Schools’, you can see exactly what homework has been set for your child/children. You can also see whether the homework has been completed.  If you have not yet logged on to 'Go4Schools', please contact Mrs Moorhouse, n.moorhouse@oakwood.ac and she will help you log in.
With exams becoming linear (pupils take all exams at the end of the year), it is essential that learning is committed to the long-term memory through over-learning and recall. Homework is set to provide meaningful study that will support your child in making the best progress possible.
Teachers will set specific homework 'Go4Schools'. You can see the  specific homework on 'Go4Schools'.
The school policy for pupils to record homework is to use the calendars on their iPads/Chromebooks and set reminders. Teachers will check the pupils’ calendars to ensure they are recording their homework in their calendars. Pupils have been taught how to use their calendars.
In the rare cases that pupils do not complete homework, the subject-teacher will use professional judgement to decide on the next steps. We want to encourage pupils to become independent learners and deepen their knowledge in readiness for assessments, so our aim is to ensure the work is completed to the highest standard possible for that child- not to punish him/ her.

Consequences for not doing homework:
  • chance given to bring the work in the next day:
  • break/ after-school detention and behaviour log;
  • parents/ carers contacted and behaviour log.
If the child still does not complete the work, a detention will be set with the Head of Learning Zone after-school and parents will be informed. The work will be completed in the detention. Please refer to the Homework Procedure for the next steps in the procedure.
