Visit to Rotherham Town Hall – Celebrating Excellence in Religious Studies at Oakwood
July 9, 2025
A group of outstanding Year 8 and Year 9 students were recently invited to Rotherham Town Hall by the Mayor and SACRE (Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education) to be recognised for their exceptional work, effort, attitude, and attainment in Religious Studies.
During this special visit, students enjoyed a guided tour of the historic building, met the Mayor of Rotherham in the parlour, and took part in a formal certificate presentation held in the Council Chambers. The event concluded with refreshments and the chance to speak further with the Mayor.
It was a proud moment for our school, and a wonderful opportunity for students to be celebrated for their dedication and achievements in Religious Studies.
Religious Studies continues to be a popular option subject at our school, with many students choosing it year after year. This consistent uptake reflects the importance our students place on the subject and their engagement with its thought-provoking content. Our RS department is proud to say that students regularly achieve GCSE results that are above the national average, a testament to both the students’ commitment and the high-quality teaching they receive at Oakwood.
