World book day
March 11, 2025
To celebrate World Book Day, we were lucky enough to have a visit from author Daniel Blythe, who has written several Doctor Who books for the BBC as well as young adult short stories for Badger Learning. Daniel led a fantastic presentation and quiz for some of year 7, before meeting more pupils in the LRC for a book signing. He then delivered a creative writing workshop, teaching year 7’s about how to hook a reader in the first paragraph of a story. All pupils involved behaved exceptionally well, and it was lovely to see so many of them eager to ask questions and feel confident enough to read out their own writing in front of the class. We clearly have some very talented young writers in Oakwood, and hopefully, this visit has inspired them to keep telling stories.
Daniel Blythe emailed after his visit to say:-
“Thank you so much for arranging the author visit today and for ensuring I was well looked after. The students came across as very well-behaved, interested and engaged. I had some great questions after my talk and in the LRC, and the participation in the quiz and workshop was excellent, with some really imaginative writing produced. I have enjoyed being a visitor to Oakwood today and I very much hope to come back in the near future.”
